DIY C-Class W203 Door Handle Replacement Instructions C320 C240 C230

How to change the broken interior door handle on Mercedes-Benz C-Class W203 and SLK R170. The driver’s door handle on C230, C240, C280, C350, and C320 may break. You can replace the broken door handle instead of replacing the door panel, which is too expensive. We will show you how you can fix the door handle yourself. Follow these simple instructions on removing the broken door handle from your C-Class and replacing it with a new one. Interior door handles can be replaced at home with the right tools.

C-Class W203 Door Handle Removal


You will need a flat screwdriver, Torx Set, and a new door handle to replace the broken interior door handle on your C-Class. All these items cost well under $60. Instructions on how to replace the door handle on W203 / R170


Step 1. Open the driver’s door and locate the broken door handle.

Step 2. Use the flat screwdriver for popping out the cover from the door handle. Once you pry out the door handle cover, you should see the two screws. One at the top and one at the bottom of the door handle.

Step 3. 
Remove the two bolts that hold the broken door handle in place. These require that you use T-30 torx.

mercedesmedic__door_panel_how_to_remove_18Step 4. Remove the door handle. This can be tricky, but it can be done with the door panel still in place. If you cannot remove the door handle, you may have to remove the door panel from the car to remove the broken door handle. If you are in that situation, watch the video below to learn how to remove the door panel.

Step 5. Install the new door handle. Press it in place and tighten the two T-30 screws. Install the cover on top of the door handle by pushing it in. The cover has no screws; it just snaps in place.

  1. Thank you for the instructions. I recommend a minor change: keeping the door panel in place requires a small amount of destruction to the panel because the two small torx screws that attach the handle from the back will tear the panel.
