Why are Mercedes-Benz cars so expensive?

Have you ever wondered why Mercedes Benz cars are so expensive? In this article, we will share some reasons we think make Mercedes-Benz cars more expensive than most. As a disclaimer, this is the opinion of MB Medic, which is not affiliated with Mercedes-Benz.

Safety

why are mercedes benz cars so expensiveSafety is one of the most important things an automaker should consider when building a car. The makers of Mercedes Benz know and understand this, so they built their cars with top-notch safety measures. Mercedes cars are heavier, with more airbags, smart seatbelts, and headrests built with the most advanced whiplash technology to ensure comfort and safety. And to make it even more awesome, the seatbelts are built with pre-tensioners that buckle up and pull them tighter during an accident.

Technology

Amongst automobiles, Mercedes has always been a pacesetter in introducing new technologies. The makers of the Mercedes brand are always several steps ahead of their competitors like Honda, Toyota, Ford, Chevy, Hyundai, Kia, Mazda, and other US brands. A few of these brands copy the technology that Mercedes Benz develops.

Innovation

In the world of automobiles, Mercedes is the bedrock of inventions. The brand is always innovating to improve its products for the comfort and safety of its customers. It will go down history books that Mercedes first invented notable car safety features such as seat belts, airbags, crumple zones, ABS brakes, and many others. Aside from these, Mercedes-Benz cars are also known for their high performance and exquisite interior design.

Luxury

Mercedes Benz is the classic choice for anyone looking for a car that combines luxury, sophistication, and affordability. Compared to other luxury cars like the Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren, and Rolls-Royce, Mercedes Benz cars are very affordable. Although Mercedes competes with models like CLA and C class in the mass market, it trumps them all with its luxury, design, and top-notch performance.

We can all testify that the latest S-Class models are simply mind-blowing. The technology, luxurious design, and high performance of the S-Class make Audi feel like a cheap Kia. Typical of the Mercedes brand, the S-Class was built with much attention to detail, technology, quality, and interior design. This makes brands like Volkswagen bow in reverence because the Mercedes-Benz is king.

Maintenance Cost

Mercedes-Benz cars are expensive to maintain as they age. Part of the problem is that there is a lack of mechanics who specialize in Mercedes-Benz repairs. I remember the day when driving from Las Vegas to Utah, and the E-Class turned on the check engine light. I found a garage at the next exit and stopped to ask them to connect their scanner. As I started to talk to the mechanic about the problem, he said, “That’s the problem, it’s a Mercedes. We don’t work on them”. This experience was 15 years ago. Even today, it is common to find mechanics with the same attitude. Take Scotty Kilmer and his highly viewed video that has probably uprightly scared millions of people from buying a Mercedes.

Mercedes-Benz cars are some of the most sophisticated cars on the road. If you are going to depend on mechanics that don’t know these cars, any Mercedes can get very expensive to maintain. If you are a DIYer, we think it is hard to find a better 10-year-old car that provides great value for the money. Get free DIY guides on MB Medic. Shop for Merced parts online. And once again, Mercedes becomes an affordable car.

Heritage

The Mercedes Benz brand, from time immemorial, has been known to be the hallmark of excellence in automobiles. In 1886, Carl Benz was awarded German patent number 37435 for making a three-wheeled “Motorwagen,” the first automobile with a rear-mounted single-cylinder engine. This invention permanently changed how people moved in those days, and even today, it continues to inspire a lot of innovations.

“Engineered like no other car in the world” was the old motto of Mercedes Benz. This was later changed to “The best or nothing,” Today, this promise of high quality remains the motto of Mercedes Benz.

Manufacturing Cost

Unlike most other manufacturers, Mercedes-Benz makes most of the parts at its factories. For example, did you know that most automakers don’t make transmissions? Yes, BMW, Audi, Honda, Kia, Hyundai, and Toyota generally get transmissions from third-party suppliers. Conversely, Mercedes-Benz develops and produces its transmission, such as the 5-speed 722.5, 7-speed 722.7, and now the 9-speed 722.9 G-Tronic.

Buying a Cheap Mercedes

In recent years, Mercedes-Benz is also been trying to compete in the mass market. Entry-level Mercedes Benz cars are designed to compete and lead in the mass market. Although entry-level cars like the Mazda 3 are cheaper, they cannot be compared to the CLA. With the CLA, you have to pay a little extra to get a high-quality car that’ll blow your mind. Also, the S-Class, E-Class, SL-Class, and Mercedes CLS-Class are unbeatable amongst their rivals.

  1. Ha! Ha! Scotty the “Mouth” Kilmer. He irritates the crap out of me sometimes, but then I remember that HE is one of the reasons that I can buy used and fantastic condition Mercedes for nest to nothing. Let him keep scaring people with his ignorance and superiority complex. LoL. I’ve checked out his videos on other cars as well just to see if he is as ham handed as he seems. Yep, he is. I am not ignorant of mechanics, I have been working on cars, truck, and heavy equipment for the past 50 years, and I am also an electrical and mechanical engineer. I came to the Mercedes Benz world late in life, buying my first one only 10 years ago, but I can attest that they are a joy to work on compared to most cars and as long as you have a good diagnostic computer, there are very few mysteries. I have the MB Star, and also an Autel Maxdas DS 808. I use the Maxdas constantly, it is way simpler to use and does everything I could want other than programing. a bit more than $700, but worth every penny.

  2. When my 16-year-old daughter was newly licensed to drive she looked all over the web for a used car. Her, as well as my other kids, got a $3500 buy limit. After checking over a dozen cars of every make there was no winner. They all had high miles and looked and ran like crap. Finally one day I found a 2001 E320 for $2400.00. It had over 300,000 miles and needed a few things that I was able to handle as I’m an old mechanic. Basically, put another $2000 in it and the thing runs like a top and I see it doing that far into the future.
