Geocode location is wrong! No, this one is correct.[edit]
I thank you for your good work in pointing out this problem in many pictures. However, for one file, File:André Schürrle Chelsea vs AS-Roma 10AUG2013.jpg you applied the tag after I had made the correction. It's not a very bad problem but would you like to describe the way you decide where to put the tag? Jim.henderson (talk) 02:19, 19 March 2017 (UTC)
@Jim.henderson: Thanks for appreciation and pointing out this one.I think this is a problem of software. My workflow is 1.Open Google Earth
2 see images from commons
3. If it seems location is wrong
4. Check the description minutely
5 After confirmation put the tag.
In this case it was still showing in Tibet in place of Washington DC in Google Earth. On that particular day I was working on Tibet. Hope you understood the problem.
Regards.

- This was only twomiles out. Seems pretty good to me! Thincat (talk) 00:20, 22 March 2017 (UTC)
@Thincat: In Himalaya two miles matters very much. I will correct the location. Thanks.
Goutam1962 (talk) 09:47, 23 March 2017 (UTC)
I do something similar, but less regularly.
- Find, in unrelated studies, a picture whose words say New York, Maryland etc, but whose coords say Central Asia.
- Google Earth to coords to assure it's wrong.
- See a few nearby roundels in Asian mountains.
- If the pictures show green cropped grass, or tall glass buildings, spend half a minute pondering other evidence.
- Reverse the +- sign.
- Revisit GE to see whether that gave a plausible position.
Your more methodical procedure is perhaps a bit safer, so I restrict myself to fairly familiar places. You could also add a step to see if the coords indeed point at Asia, but false positives like this are pretty rare and don't upset us old cat wranglers. Nice to know your methods; keep up the good work. Jim.henderson (talk) 00:41, 22 March 2017 (UTC)
I will include '# Reverse the +- sign.' wherever applicable, thanks for ur suggestions.

Adding appropriate description and categories for your Images[edit]
Hello Goutam, thank you for your contributions to Wiki Loves Folklore 2024 edition. However it is found that every set of images have same file name (except numbering), same description and improper categorization. I do appreciate your efforts in capturing these images for Wiki Loves Folklore, but if you fill the upload wizard with adequate data while uploading images to the contest, it'll help others in the future. Otherwise it will just look like a photo-dump in the commons server. Please note that Wikimedia Commons is a free media repository for freely licensed educational media content, that is run by donations WMF receive and maintained by volunteers only.
It is highly appreciated for the experienced users like you to add relevant data for your own images, so others can put their minds on training new users and other maintenance tasks. Just adding images without any context, will not add any weight to the educational value we are trying to provide and it will only dilute the project and add excess load to the servers on a long term. It would be a great help, if you help us in adding appropriate description and categories to the files you have uploaded, please reply me here if acknowledged and you can also ask at Help desk if needed any help, many thanks. --iMahesh (talk) 12:46, 12 May 2024 (UTC)
