Replace engine air filter 1998-2005 M-Class ML320 ML430 ML500

Instructions on replacing the intake air filter on M Class years 1998-2005 in ML320, ML350, ML430, ML500, and ML55 (W163). This is an easy job that you can complete in about twenty minutes. All you need is a new filter.

Parts Needed

• Engine Air Filter OEM #6040941304, 6040941404

1. Open the hood using the hood handle in the driver’s footwell.
2. Pull the hood release.
3. Locate the air filter.
4. Disconnect the two clips that connect the air filter housing to the mass air flow housing. Be careful not to lose the rubber gasket that goes between the two. If it comes out as it did for us, put it back in place when you install everything back together.
5. Unhook several tabs that hold the air intake cover in place.
6. Pull out the old air filter—note orientation.
7. Install the new air filter.
8. Lock the clips back in place. That’s it; you are done.
