Introduction
In this repair guide, we will show you how to replace the engine mounts on your Mercedes-Benz. These instructions apply to Mercedes-Benz cars with the V6 and V8 engines. Many Mercedes-Benz owners experience vibrations through the car’s interior, the steering wheel, and the seat, which is the first sign that your engine mounts have failed. One of our earlier posts shows you how to check if you have defective motor mounts, and you can learn how to perform them by reading this article.

Preparation
Disconnect the main battery before you start working on your car. It will be a lot easier if you use vehicle ramps such as the RhinoGear 11909ABMI RhinoRamps Vehicle Ramp – Pair (12,000lb. GVW Capacity) instead of jacking up the car with a jack.
Make sure to use a jack stand (Bestselling Jack stand on Amazon) to secure the car.
You will need a set of sockets and a metric wrench to complete this repair, which you most likely already have.
One tool that you don’t have, which is a must for this job, is the Mercedes Benz Offset Engine Mount Wrench 16mm. You could technically remove the bolt without this tool, but it is much more difficult. The wrench sells for under $20 on Amazon and is well worth it.
Parts Required
You will need a new set of engine mounts. If you buy aftermarket, make sure to get oil-filled engine mounts. Lemforder makes the original mounts on the Mercedes-Benz. If you take a look at these engine mount listings on Amazon, you will find Lemforder engine mounts as well being sold at a fraction of dealer prices.
You have a total of three mounts. One for each side of the engine and one for the rear of the engine (transmission mount). You can purchase all three OEM Lemforder mounts online for around $150.
Do It Yourself Repair Instructions
Remove the engine cover/air filter housing.
Open the hood and remove the two air ducts by pulling them away from the engine cover. Grab the engine cover on both sides and pull it up.
Raise the vehicle.
Jack up the car or roll it on ramps if you have a set. Make sure to place jack stands under the car to secure it. You will need a second jack to support the engine later.
Remove the engine splash shield.
Remove the plastic undercarriage cover/splash shield from the bottom of the engine. Several 8 mm screws need to be removed.
Decide!
Once you remove the two bolts for the engine mounts, which we will show you in the next few steps, you will not be able to pull the engine mounts out. The problem is that there isn’t enough room to allow you to pull out the old engine mounts. Therefore, you will need to remove something else. You have two options.
Option 1 – Remove the exhaust
The first option is to remove the exhaust to pull out the engine mount. This is the same procedure that the dealer follows.
Option 2 – Remove the alternator and A/C compressor
The other option is to remove the serpentine belt. To remove the passenger side mount, you must remove the two bolts for the alternator. You don’t need to unplug the alternator; slide it out of the way, and you can pull out the mount. Remove the three bolts holding the A/C compressor in place to get the AC compressor out of the way. You don’t need to remove the A/C or unplug it. Check out the article on how to remove alternators.
Remove the 16 mm top bolt.
Remove the top bolt using the Mercedes-Benz offset engine mount tool that we mentioned earlier.
Support the engine and lift it one inch.
Support the engine under the oil pan. Since you have removed the bolt on top of the engine mount, you can light the engine about one inch. Be careful not to try to raise the engine too much.
Remove bottom bolt
Remove the bolt at the bottom of the engine mount. This should be a 13 bolt that should break loose fairly easily. Remove engine mounts.
Remove the engine mount.
If you remove the exhaust, you will remove the mounts from underneath. If you loosen the A/C compressor and the alternator and move them out of the way, you will remove the alternator from the engine bay.
Install new mounts
Install the new mount. Make sure that you position the heat shield correctly. There is a lock pin that you can not miss that needs to align properly for the heat shield and the bolt to be installed properly.
You are done. Congratulations!

Torque Specifications
- Exhaust Manifold Front Flange  – 20 Nm
- Bolt between the engine mount and engine support – 55 Nm
- Bottom Bolt between the engine and the axle carrier – 35Nm
